Abstract

Research suggests a high prevalence of traumatic experiences among adults in the United States. Recently, research exploring trauma-informed care has grown rapidly. Various professions have developed approaches to implementing trauma-informed care for their fields, relying on a translation of the principles of trauma-informed care into the specific context. While some research has been done for the wider context of pastoral ministry, research regarding trauma-informed care in the specific area of college campus ministry has not yet developed even with greater recognition of the prevalence of trauma histories in college students. This project discusses the existing literature and the field of college campus ministry. Utilizing these insights, it proposes a contextually relevant approach to trauma-informed care in college campus ministry and articulates an example of a professional development workshop to offer education and avenues for implementation of the approach with a team of college campus ministers. It assesses the workshop and proposes possibilities for future consideration and research.
