Black Trans* Ontology in the Wake of Afro-Pessimism Público
Tucker, Chad (Spring 2020)
Abstract
The essay examines the Black trans* body’s presence, or lack of presence, within the field of Afro-Pessimism. It is an exploration into the theoretical incapacity of the field to account for the problem of gender from an intracommunal perspective because of the overreliance on Western metaphysics to explain multiple, overlapping forms of violence. In writing this text, I selected YouTube videos as a new manufacturer of knowledge for Black trans* bodies, whose voices are often left out of literature that depends upon them.
