STRUCTURED FOR MISSION: A NEW DISTRICT LEADERSHIP MODEL Open Access
Lewis, Paula (Spring 2021)
Abstract
The purpose of my research is to develop a new district leadership structure for use within the UMC (parts can be used in other denominations) that enables effective leadership to share non-confidential responsibilities of the District Superintendent so that the needs, skills, and training for both pastors and churches are better understood and missional strategies to resource those needs are implemented more effectively. The District Superintendent is the chief missional strategist of the district. “Chief” presumes that there are other missional strategists. This new structure draws upon that assumption by intentionally creating a team of missional strategist and others who assist in some form of supervision and pastoral care to the pastors. All of this creates an environment of effective communication and resourcing while affording the DS to be more relation and visible within the district.
