Abstract

There is a growing movement to encourage reproducibility and transparency practices in the scientific community. With increased open access to protocols, analytical codes, and raw data, external researchers have the opportunity to evaluate possible weaknesses in the design, conduct, and analysis of studies. Furthermore, increased transparency will allow for external investigators to reproduce study results. In this survey, the current status of reproducibility and transparency in a random sample of published biomedical journal articles was assessed. By deriving empirical data on important monitoring indicators, this study highlights the need to further sensitize scientists, funders, and journals to the need of improving these indicators.
