Abstract
In this thesis, I attempt to answer the question, "How is
Hegel's absolute knowing, absolute?" through expositing what the
canons of both western and eastern philosophy take to be absolute
knowing. I believe the master key to this question is Hegel's
conception of the true infinity [das wahrhafte
Unendliche] and I justify this interpretation by examining the
views of prominent Hegelian thinkers, Alexandre Kojève and
Jean Hyppolite, and the concept of Wu Wei from the Tao Te
Ching.
