The Sarita Affair

The Sarita Affair is the story of Leela, a young girl living in small town India, whose
mother hires a nanny for her following the sudden and violent death of her father.
The novel explores their friendship and the lessons that Leela learns from Sarita
about life and love in the aftermath of her personal tragedy. Issues of class
consciousness and religious differences test their relationship until it is completely
upended by one man, Vivek. Leela soon discovers that Sarita is hiding a terrible
secret, and it is that revelation that changes everything for her. The Sarita Affair is a
novel about secrets, identity, the power of language, and the meaning of
unconditional love.
