A DNP Project Through Literature Review:
Developing a Model for Screening and Intervention for Pediatric Oncology Open Access Open Access

Abstract

This systematic review investigates and presents how social determinants of health (SDoH), specifically food insecurity, housing instability, and

transportation barriers, impact health outcomes in pediatric oncology patients. Despite improving survival rates due to medical advances, poor patient

reported outcomes persist, largely due to non-medical factors. The systematic review synthesizes existing evidence on SDoH screening and

intervention methods targeting these domains in the U.S. pediatric cancer population and survivorship. Findings indicate limited but growing evidence

for integrating SDoH into clinical care. However, standardized screening tools and sustainable interventions remain lacking. This review highlights

the need for systematic approaches to mitigate SDoH-related disparities in pediatric cancer care and survivorship and synthesizes the findings into an

integrative model for screening and intervention.
