Abstract
Hate Crimes: An Empirical Analysis on the Impact of
Legislation
This paper investigates the impact of hate crime legislation on
both the number of hate crime
groups and the number of hate crimes committed per state per year.
Through an empirical
analysis, it is shown that hate crime legislation is not associated
with hate and hate crimes
committed; therefore, contributing to the open debate on whether or
not hate crime
legislation is warranted.
